LY17LP Lithuanian Hill Forts.
Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas), taking into consideration, that hill-forts, lying nearby settlements, sacred places, cemeteries, tumulus, ancient roads are the values, strengthening Lithuanian national identity, and that the significance of most objects is not realized and their protection is not sufficient, decided to proclaim year 2017 as the Hill-forts year.
There is stressed in approved document, that the hill-forts are the symbol of Baltic culture and earliest Lithuanian State, evidence of self-dependence of Grand Duchy of Lithuania as well as source of inspiration of national revival movement.
Lithuanian radio amateurs are participating in this action in the limits of LHFA program.
During the period of July – August 2017, there will be operation from hill-forts, using special call-sign LY17LP. Also, operation with regular calls will occur all the year.
For this occasion special award is issued.
During the year of 2017 applicants must establish QSOs with 17 different hill-forts. All QSOs, using CW, PHPONE or DIGI modes are valid. Applications for award should be sent until March 1, 2018 to award manager’s address: vdurk.award@gmail.com.
Award can be issued in electronic form, JPG or PDF style upon applicant‘s request.
Hillforts are the best known and the most beautiful archaeological monuments in Lithuania. Their total number approaches one thousand. Lithuania has more hillforts, to which this atlas is devoted, than our neighbouring countries.
