The Virgin of Covadonga, popularly known as “La Santina”, is an image of the Virgin Mary found in a cave in Covadonga (Cangas de Onís). She is the patron saint of the Principality of Asturias, which is why on September 8, 2023, Asturias Day is also commemorated. During this day at 11:00 in the morning thousands of pilgrims go up to Lake Enol to see how "La Santina" emerges from the lake. It is a tradition carried out by the Federation of Underwater Activities of the Principality of Asturias (FASPA). At 12:00 the celebrations continue with the mass in honor of the Virgin in the Royal Basilica of Covadonga, followed by a procession to the Holy Cave.
