    N3QE - CQ Contesting Editor

Congratulations to N3QE, Tim Shoppa, who CQ has named the magazine’s new Contesting Editor. CQ publisher W2VU, Rich Moseson, notes that Tim succeeds K3ZJ, Dave Siddall. Dave, I will note, made the 1X1 callsigns happen (when the idea was raised during WRTC planning meetings) in the US when he worked for the FCC. He previously worked in the US Senate, was the main op of the W3USS Senate club station, which came about with the support of K7UGA, Senator Barry Goldwater. Dave has been the Contest Editor for five years. Thank you, Dave.

Tim, N3QE, is an active contester and part of the W3AO Field Day team, and was active in Field Day these last two days, and is also the secretary of PVRC, the Potomac Valley Radio Club. He is active from his suburban neighborhood in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., often winning the tribander/wires category in CQ WPX Contests, with just wire antennas! He also guest ops at the W3LPL multi-multi. He had the top 80M score in the 2018 CQ DX Marathon. He works for D.C.’s WMATA, the “Metro” system,” handling data on the organization’s 70,000 devices and has a patent for track circuit monitoring and alerts. Licensed at 10 years old, Tim was off the air for 30 years during his schooling and career starting and came back bigtime in 2008. Tim’s first column will be in the September issue of CQ.
