    WSPR Radio Beacon - Antarctica

The Technical University of Munich's Institute for Astronautics plans to set up a WSPR radio beacon on the 7th continent.. They say this will be the first time a permanent WSPR beacon will be set up to study propagation conditions from the bottom of the world. They expect the project to last the next 11 years, for a complete solar cycle. It will start up in November 2017. A WSPR transmitter and broadband SDR receiver will cover 160-6 meters simultaneously and upload heard signals to the WSPR database. DL5XL, Felix Riess, will install and maintain the setup. "DARC eV" will be a project partner. Felix and colleagues say "radio amateurs still play an important role in technical-scientific research."
