    PJ2ND - QRV - Pictures - Stories

Jeff, K8ND is currently active from Bonaire Island as PJ2ND.
He is posting great information and pictures:
The house at Signal Point PJ2T sits on a 37-foot cliff above a reef of the Caribbean. I've seen fish in the water below, but today I had my birding camera in hand, with a long lens (Nikon D500 with Nikon 200-500mm zoom). I saw some blue flashing below the waves, and got the photos below.

No changing of colors in 'post': these fish looked just like this through the water. There were two of them, they were in the shallow parts near shore, and foraged as the waves swept in-and-out over the coral. I don't know what kind of fish they are, but they had the blue with bits of yellow, pink, and purple.

Also seen was a deep blue fish, smaller, but similarly darting about in the waves.

I guess that this vehicle qualifies as "street legal" in Curacao, as it has the same license plate as a traditional car!

Parked at the huge Sambil Mall.

      Blue-tailed Emerald Hummingbird (male).

I was walking back from the flowering tree, where I was unsuccessful in photographing the two types of hummingbirds foraging there (the sun was directly behind the tree), when this bird landed in the shade inside a bush for a rest!

The colors show up much better in full sunlight, but I welcome any chance to record these little jewels!

        Another Curacao Bird: White-tipped Dove.

This guy was foraging along the top of the cliff at Signal Point PJ2T.

          Never say never!

This is the single Green Iguana I've seen this week in the neighborhood around Signal Point PJ2T on Curacao, and he's a very young one!

About a foot or so long. Not particularly wary of me, but not trying to climb up my leg to get to food like one did a couple of years ago!

Curacao Birds: Tropical Mockingbird & Yellow Warbler

As I was trying to capture the quick-moving Hummingbirds feeding on the only flowering tree in the area of the signal Point PJ2T property, these other birds flew by for cameos.

              Curacao Bird: Ruby-topaz Hummingbird

No great photos of this bird, but I built up the strength in my arms and shoulders trying to follow this speedy bird with my camera and 200-500mm lens as he fed on the flowers and (mostly) defended the tree by chasing away another of is species every time it appeared.

They pierce the base of the flower, as the flowers are too long for them to probe with their beak from the open end.

                Curacao Bird: Bananaquit

Sharing the flowers with the Hummingbirds, there were up to ten Bananaquits at a time, piercing the base of flowers to feed on the nectar.

                    PJ2ND Curacao Island 2018
Here at the beginning of my sixth full day on Curacao, I had not even taken one of my cameras out of the bag! This morning, I took a few photos on the front patio.

Green Iguana (oddly, the first Iguana I've seen since arrival).
