    K9XE - Ray Boehmer - Urbana - Illinois

K9XE, Ray Boehmer, from Urbana, Illinois, USA, has passed away. KX9X, Sean Kutzko, says Ray was a "kind, gentle guy who loved bilingual education and birding, and was a crackerjack CW op." Sean says Ray gave him "a lot of encouragement when I was new in the hobby." From QRZ.com, in December, 2017, Ray said in his bio info that he preferred CW but also worked SSB and digital. During the 1960s he served in the US Peace Corps in Colombia. Since then he was involved in science and math education from kindergarten through postgraduate. He was a nature enthusiastic and loved to travel, "to see the diversity of living things that share the planet." "Especially interested in birds," he had "logged" 1,500 species on his "life list," in NA, SA and Africa. In retirement Ray volunteered in a dual language second grade class near his home, using Spanish and English. He also became a fan of Logbook of the World. He liked state QSO parties, ARRL's November Sweepstakes, the ARRL 10 Meter Contest, DX contests, and QRP activities. He was a member of the SMC, Society of Midwest Contesters, and other groups.
