A couple of days ago, a veteran of Amateur Radio Wojciech, SP5FM became Silent Key at the age of 88. He started his activities in the 1950s as one of very few licensees in Poland. Wojciech became famous among mountaineers when he developed hand-held radios for both rescue services and advanced climbers. His short-wave radios were reliable and used in most severe environments above 8000 meters.
In the 1970s SP5FM became engaged in The IARU dealing with technical issues.
In 2014 Wojciech was awarded with a VK3KI memorial plaque for his contribution for the organization and the Amateur Radio community.
He lived near Warsaw, Poland.
