Miika, OH2BAD, passed away on November 13, 2024 at the age of 76. He was a retired Lutheran Pastor, a Gregorian choir member and a very ardent and successful DX-hunter, chiefly on CW.
Miika was the youngest licensed Amateur Radio operator in Finland when he passed the test in 1961 at the age of 13. I received my licence in Poland a year earlier, when I was still 14, and we had a number of QSOs in the early 1960s.
I met him in person for the first time in early 1970s when he visited Warsaw, for a choir performance. In April 1975, I visited him in Helsinki, when he was appointed to the famous Temppeliaukio Church. Pastor Miika let me participate in the SPDX Contest from his station. Later, we met a couple of times in Stockholm and countless times on the air, while I was active in different locations.
He participated in a few DX-peditions, served as The President of the OH DX Foundation from the start, and helped many Finnish DXers in their pursuit.
Information received through his brother Jukka, OH2BR, whom I also met a couple of times.
