Radio Club OK1KLV will activate the special call sign OL90ITALIA from May 25, 2018 to June 8, 2018 that will honor the memory of the adventurous and tragic Polar expedition of the Airship ITALIA that in 1928 crashed near the North Pole.
In particular, the "men lost for ever" will be remembered of the tragic Expedition of Umberto Nobile and the survivors saved thanking to the listening of the tenacious Engineer Nikolaj Reingoldovich Schmidt from Arkhangelsk in Russia who listened to the signals of rescue request of the Red Tent. We will make international radio contacts on various modes in HF from March 20, 2018 to October 20, 2018 retracing the steps of the support ship Citta di Milano and the main events up to make contacts with R1LK (icebreaker Krasin in S.Petersburg), Norway, Czechia, Naval Museums of Imperia and La Spezia, Rome S.Paolo RT Regia Marina, Museum of Umberto Nobile in Lauro,Vohkma and other important sites.
