On May 6, 1943 there was a resolution of the State Committee of Defense "About formation of the 1st Polish infantry division of Tadeusz Kosciusko".
Since May 14 in Seletsky military camps near Ryazan formation of the 1st Polish infantry division began.
In 1943 in Ryazan the Joint Polish military college which in military conditions trained more than one thousand commanders for the Polish parts as a part of the Soviet armed forces was created.
On October 12 - 13, 1943 near the village of Lenino (Belarus) the division for the first time engaged with fascist troops.
In July, 1944 the 1st Polish army quickly was under supervision of the 8th Soviet Guards army of the 1st Belarusian front and participated in speeding up of Bug. The army became the first Polish connection which crossed borders of Poland.
In January, 1945 participated in liberation of Warsaw. In the last days of war participated fights for capture Berlin, in particular, around the Reichstag and Imperial office.
By June, 1945. The army Polish totaled about 400,000 people. The Polish army in the east was the largest regular military force battling together with the Red Army and in the future made a basis of Armed forces of the Polish republic.
