The Miraculous Image of Our Lady Aparecida was found on the Paraíba do Sul river in the year 1717. Therefore, in 2017 the encounter of the Image completes 300 years. Our Lady of Aparecida's '300 years of Blessings' commemorations began on October 12, 2016 and to celebrate this great tricentenary, the National Shrine promotes a special program of devotion and works of faith. Since the year 2014 a facsimile of the Patroness is sent to various archdioceses and Redemptorist Missionaries visit the capitals of the country, who are receiving the pilgrim image, to collect a portion of land that will comprise the special crown of Our Lady Aparecida. Among the works that honor the tricentenary of the Mother Aparecida is the Belfry with bells made in Holland and the grand Dome of the Basilica, which will be inaugurated on October 11, 2017.
