    TM80LM - Le Muy

TM80LM Special Event station will be active from Le Muy, France, commemorating 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Le Muy.
They will operate on HF Bands.
    Information from their QRZ page:
This year, on 16 august the village of Le Muy is celebrating that 80 Years ago the village was liberated from German occupation during WW ll with the Allied “Operation Dragoon” (initially Operation Anvil) in southern France.

The operation who was initially planned to be executed in conjunction with “Operation Overlord”, the Allied landing in the Normandy on 6 june 1944, the lack of available resources led to a cancellation of the second landing.

By July 1944 the landing was reconsidered, as the clogged-up ports in Normandy did not have the capacity to adequately supply the Allied forces and limited the speed of movement in northern France.

“Operation Dragoon” was the new code name for the Allied invasion of Southern France. This invasion started at the morning of 15 August 1944 with the landing of the Vll Corps (US) (350.000 troops) commanded by Gen. A. M. Patch followed by several divisions of the French Armée B (250.000 troops) commanded by Gen. de Lattre de Tassigny on the beaches of St-Raphaël, St-Maxime, St-Tropez and Cavalaire-sur-Mer.

The chief objectives were the important vital French ports of Marseille and Toulon, considered essential to supply the growing Allied forces in France and increasing pressure on the German forces by opening a second front.

Previous of the approaching invasion, the 1st ABTF (Airborne Task Force), commanded by Gen. R.T. Frederick, landed in the early morning of 15th august 1944, with more than 9000 paratroopers and 407 gliders into the fields near Le Muy and La Motte.

The objectives where to secure the area, capturing Le Muy, cut off the German lines of communication, secure the bridges over the rivers Argens and La Nartuby and preventing any German reinforcements reaching the landing beaches.

After the first fire exchange with German units and the lightly armed paratroopers the attempt to capture Le Muy was beaten off by the stiff German resistance. A combined allied attack the next day on 16 august 1944 succeeded and liberated the village.

On 17 August the leading units of the seaborne 36th Infantry Division reached Le Muy and linked up with the 1st ABTF.

During the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Le Muy, the special event station TM80LM, supported by a Radio Amateur Group from Amersfoort (Netherlands), will be active from 15 -18 august 2024 at the “Musée de la Libération du Muy 15 Août 1944”, Tour Charles Quint, RN7, Le Muy (JN33GL)
