    History :

Radio "GANTOIS '' was published in the Belgian Official Gazette on 17th of May 1924. The first official radio club in the city of Ghent (Belgium).
In Belgium, the first real radio clubs were only founded after the war. It is difficult to determine exactly where the first associations emerged. Early magazines such as “Science et Savoir-Faire” from 1919 already included listening reports, which indicates that enthusiasts were already meeting in clubs at that time. The first real clubs appeared in the early 1920s. In cities like Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Izegem and Kortrijk.

Specialized magazines such as “Radio” also strongly encouraged the formation of associations because this would stimulate the scientific progress of radio and strengthen the call for Flemish radio broadcasts. The magazine even published a comprehensive guide on how to approach the formation and first meetings of a new radio club. The magazines' call was clearly heeded, although during the 1920s the clubs often consisted of no more than a handful of people when they were founded. Due to the increased popularity of radio, more and more people were involved in its creation in the 1930s. The membership of most clubs showed remarkable growth. The Ghent radio club started its activities in May 1924 with 40 people, had 92 members by the end of that year and had already united 245 by the end of 1926.
