    Information from QRZ page:
October 29, 1941 is considered the official date of the beginning of the heroic defense of the city of Tula. On this day, the tank divisions of Heinz Wilhelm Guderian came close to the city and tried to take it on the move. Guderian hoped to take Tula at once and advance as quickly as possible to Moscow.
Given the great strategic importance of Tula, the Nazis sent selected units to Tula: the 3rd, 4th, 17th Panzer, 29th Motorized Divisions and the Great Germany Regiment. In essence, it was the Nazi guard.

In Tula, by mid-October 1941, there were only a few units ill-equipped to withstand tank attacks: the 50th Army under the command of Major General Yermakov and the 732nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment, the 34th Border Regiment was additionally transferred to the city. Also on October 23, the Tula Workers' Regiment was created from the detachments of the people's militia. The militias were armed mainly with Mosin rifles, Molotov cocktails were anti-tank weapons.

October 29, 1941 the head tank units of the Nazis reached a point 4 km from Tula. An attempt to capture the city on the move ran into a strong defense and ended in failure - only during the first attack on Tula on October 30, the Nazis made four attempts to capture Tula and 31 German tanks were destroyed that day. The next day another 34 tanks were destroyed. Attempts to capture Tula invariably ended in failure - Tula did not give up, Tula countered! On November 7, for the holiday, the Rogozhinsky settlement and a number of settlements were liberated.
Tula's inhabitants boldly fought for their city and did not give it to the enemy. The militias from the Tula Workers' Regiment (yesterday's workers and employees) fought on a par with regular soldiers and heroically held the line. Tula Arms Plants worked giving weapons to the front

In constant fierce battles near Tula, Guderian's army began to lose strength. Fuhrer Adolf Hitler ordered Guderian to hold out to the last, but the general did not listen to the leader and led the remnants of the army out of Tula. January 5, 1942 The Tula region, with the exception of the western part of the Belevsky district, was liberated from the Nazis.

For the courage and heroism shown by the defenders of the city, on December 7, 1976, by the decree of the government, Tula was awarded the honorary title "Hero City".

During the war years, more 250 Tula's inhabitants were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
