    VI40BARC

    VI40BARC is a special event call sign to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the formation of the Barossa Amateur Radio Club in the Barossa Valley in South Australia. The Club was Incorporated on 16 July 1986.

    A group of Amateur radio Enthusiasts living in the Barossa and surrounding districts met and decided to form an Amateur Radio Club. The first meeting was held at the QTH of Don VK5ADT on 20/9/1985. Those present were Don VK5ADT, Peter VK5AWP, Clarry VK5NA, Glen VK5ZCF, Norm VK5ZAH, Rick VK5KCX, George VK5AGK, Basil VK5BK, Lindsay VK5MP. It was decided to draw up a constitution.

    Don VK5ADT was elected President, Lindsay VK5MP Vice President, George VK5AGK Secretary Treasurer. The remaining attendees, Basil VK5BK, Clarry VK5NA, Norm VK5ZAH, Glen VK5ZCF, Rick VK5KCX and Peter VK5AWP formed the Committee.

    The club applied for a repeater licence with the callsign of VK5RBV and the equipment initially set up at the QTH of Don VK5ADT. A site was obtained at Mount Kitchener and a hut and tower procured. After establishing a site agreement, the tower and equipment were installed. The Barossa repeater commenced operation on 9/8/1986. At the first AGM held on 12 October 1986 the Treasurer reported that the 70cm repeater installation had cost $634.88.
