    KM4TXT - 9 years old

9 Year-Old KM4TXT works PZ5K in Surinam on 10 Meters During the 2017 CQWW SSB Contest

Grace had been taking a break from contesting and was riding her bike. When she came in for a drink, Daddy asked if she wanted to work a station in Suriname, which would be an all-time-new-one (ATNO) for her. She quickly jumped into the chair and didn't even remove her bike helmet before putting on the Radiosport headset!

Each year in the last weekend of October, thousands of amateur radio operators take to the airwaves in the CQ Worldwide DX SSB Contest. For those who are serious about Radiosport, it's a big weekend. For others, it's a chance to work some otherwise rare countries.

Amateur radio is a fun hobby for everyone in the family! Be sure to take a look at our other videos to see what it has to offer. Also, please like and share this and all of our videos and then subscribe to our channel.

If you're in the Lawrenceville, GA area on November 4, 2017, make sure to stop by the Stone Mountain Hamfest and hear Grace give a presentation on solar power and batteries for ham radio!

KM4TXT/AG and the ENTIRE Lea Family Works W1AW on Ham Radio 20 Meters!

Grace upgraded to General at the Orlando Hamcation 2017 and now that Mommy (N8ZQZ) and Grace have their General Class licenses, it's possible to work the entire family on HF! Grace (KM4TXT/AG) heard W1AW calling "CQ" on 20 meters and gave them a shout. She told the guest operator that we know Sean Kutzko (KX9X) and someone went to tell him that Grace was on the air.

Sean came into the W1AW shack and jumped on the air to say "hi" and W1AW became the fifth station in the world to Work All Leas on HF!

9 Year Old Grace KM4TXT Working VA4EEE, KC1CWF, and AC9ED on 20 Meters with an Icom IC 7300

Amateur radio is fun for all ages! In this video, newly-upgraded General Class amateur radio operator Grace (KM4TXT) makes contacts with three other amateur radio stations. First, she works VA4EEE in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada, then her friend Marty (KC1CWF) gives her a call from his station in Boston, Massachusetts via his remote Internet link while he vacationed in Southern Florida. Finally, Grace worked AC9ED in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Grace accomplished this with an Icom IC-7300 transceiver that Marty lent to the kids for the last few weeks. This radio puts out radio waves with the same power as a 100 watt light bulb, and it can reach the farthest corners of the earth with its signal. Grace was using a homemade 1/4 wave 20 meter vertical antenna that uses a collapsible fiberglass fishing pole with a wire fed inside it.
