Youth on the Air (YOTA) Junior Camp USA 2025 Announces On the Air Times and Streaming Events
The camp for under 15-year-old amateur radio operators inthe USA will operate special event station W8Y while camp is in session from July 25-27, 2025 in West Chester Twp. (Cincinnati), Ohio. The opening ceremony will be live streamed on YouTube, and daily highlight videos will be posted as well.
COLUMBIANA, Ohio, July 20, 2025—Youth on the Air Junior Camp USA is being held in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio. Licensed amateur radio operators under the age of 15 will operate special event callsign W8Y from the National Voice of America Museum of Broadcasting, home of WC8VOA, as the campers finish projects, between sessions, and during free time.
Activation of the W8Y callsign from the camp will begin at 1900Z on Friday, July 25th and conclude at 1600Z on Sunday, July 27th.
In addition, campers will have the opportunity to operate during the following dedicated times:
• Friday, July 25: 6:30 to 9:00 pm EDT (2230 to 0100Z)
• Saturday, July 26: 11:00 am to 12:00 pm EDT (1500 to 1600Z), 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm EDT (2000Z to 2100Z)
YOTA Junior is a three-day weekend camp for young hams to meet other young hams, participate in unique experiences with radio related technologies, and build relationships with mentors and peers. The camp is a miniature version of the region wide YOTA camps for ages 15 through 25.
The opening ceremony will take place at 1700Z on Friday, July 25 and will be livestreamed on the Youth On The Air YouTube channel. Daily highlight videos will also be posted on YouTube.
Funding for YOTA Junior USA 2025 is provided by a grant from Amateur Radio Digital Communications (ARDC) and is hosted by the West Chester Amateur Radio Association.
