Announcing the 2018 Dave Kalter Memorial Youth DX Adventure trip to the PJ2T site in Curacao.
The date is July 19-24, 2018 for a 3 Youth and 3 Adult team. We may expand the team if fund raising permits.
Youths between the age of 12 and 17 with a Ham license and a valid passport are encouraged to apply.
A parent or legal guardian must accompany a youth and does not have to be licensed but is a plus if they are.
We would like the youth to tell us a little about themselves and why they would like to go.

Deadline for applications is March 17, 2018.

PJ2Y - Youth DX Adventure

The Curacao 2018 Dave Kalter youth DX adventure of PJ2Y went QRT at
5:45 pm EDT (2145Z) on Monday July 23. The youth made 6,218 QSOs starting Thursday evening at 7:30 pm EDT (2330Z) and ran until QRT time. There was a concentrated effort to have a FT8 station on the air as much as possible. Also there 2 additional radios on the air almost constantly. One was on SSB and the other alternated between SSB and CCW. All CW QSOs were made by the youth. The adults only made a few SSB and FT8 contacts as the youth were quite active on the radios.

We had a few challenges. During prime band opening time on two days we had power losses resulting in lost time. This amounted to about
8 hours. The youth chose to do their sightseeing on Monday to permit contacts on Sunday while people were off for the weekend.
Each operating day didn't see bands open until about 10 and they usually operated until midnight when most bands closed for us.

The team was very compatible and work extremely well together. We thank all of our sponsors and especially all those who contacted us. The multiple contacts on a band were great as usually it was a different one of the youth. I know several people tried to work all kids (WAK) on not only one but more than one band.

The QSL card will be designed and printed soon. See our PJ2Y QRZ page for more information. The entire log has been loaded to LoTW and Club Log. At this time we do not plan to do OQRS.

Thanks to the Curacao bureau of telecommunications for speeding the process of getting the PJ2Y call.

Dave Kalter Youth DX Adventure 2019

The Dave Kalter Youth DX Adventure is returning to the PJ2T Contest Station in Curacao again this year. Thanks to our host Uli, DL8OBQ, and the Caribbean Contesting Consortium we will be live beginning late July 14-18, 2019. Once again we have applied for the PJ2Y special call sign that we had last year.

This year's youth team includes a veteran of the 2017 team (due to an emergency fill) of Bryant Rascoll, KG5HVO, so look for some great CW contacts. Also on the team is Audrey McElroy, KM4BUN, and her brother Jack, KM4ZIA.

Depending on conditions we plan to be on all bands and modes, SSB, CW,
FT8 and possibly some satellites.

PJ2Y - Dave Kalter Youth DX Adventure

The Dave Kalter Youth DX Adventure starts Sunday July 14! Our call sign is PJ2Y and we hope to be on the air late afternoon Sunday. Full ops start Monday morning and continue through mid afternoon July 18.

All three youth plan to be on all bands depending on conditions throughout the entire time. Contacts will be made on CW, SSB and
FT8. Club log will be updated periodically and after the event we
will load all contacts to LOTW.

We will create a special team QSL card and as soon as we have them we will send to those who request a card. The QSL information is on the PJ2Y QRZ page. Please include a SASE and $3 to help offset the cost.

PJ2Y News.
The Dave Kalter Youth dx adventure is qrv in Curaçao until Thursday July 18 about 1600est. Jack KM4ZIA, Audrey KM4BUN and Bryant KG5HVO are working hard trying to exceed last years QSO’s. Propagation here is bad from 11am-1pm est. We plan to try to work Asia at the top of the hour from 2200-0200utc.
