I will definitely try to make a contact because my wife is down there right now on the Coast Guard icebreaker Polar Star as one of the volunteer cooks. I am in Juneau Alaska so it will be a long path if it works. Now I just need to figure out when you will be on the air.

Hello and thank you for your attempt. No contact to the north america this weekend. Propagation wasnt in the cards. In the late 90s and early 20s I hade many contacts with KC4AAA along with a few for Mcmurdo and Palmer on 14.243 inc a QRP. Thank you for your efforts. I was aboard the USS Arneb AKA-56 as a radio op and operated the onboard ham station(KV4USR). While at McMurdo and Hallett Station, I visited both amateur stations and made a few contacts from McMurdo. This was way back in 1961.

On a whim just wondered if King Charlie 4 Uncle Sugar Victor was still around. Ha! Not an operator but sure enjoyed the help in talking with my grandparents in Atlanta, GA. while there as HM2 in 1961.

I was at McMurdo with DeepFreeze IV, November, 1958 to November, 1959. Ham radio was the only way of contacting my family back in Indiana from March 1 when the last ship left until October 1, when the first plane returned. My folks had a schedule every other Friday with a local ham and we would talk for 15 minutes. Those occasions certainly meant a lot to us. I recently scanned a copy of a DeepFreeze Four QSL card onto the hard drive of my computer that has individual pictures of the 14 men who operated the ham station round the clock, or at least most of the time. There were times conditions would not allow transmissions.

Hey guys, just a quick note to you. Nice QSL Card. Brought back some fond memories of McMurdo Station. Is the bar still open? Ha Ha. I remember the black walls and the curtains being closed at 2 am, due to the sunlight. Those Kiwi lads made some harsh hooch. I was aboard the USCGC Polar Sea 11, for Deepfreeze 83. What a trip that was. anyway 73
