Although it is prosaically the result of an entrepreneurial project started some time before [7], the foundation of Lamborghini is traditionally traced back to a real dispute between Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini. The latter, already an established industrialist who built tractors, boilers and air conditioners [8], owned a Ferrari 250 GT with which he was not fully satisfied. He turned to the Commendatore himself to complain about the malfunctioning of the transmission and to dispense advice, but Ferrari, proudly annoyed that the customer wanted to teach him the trade, said to him: "What do you want to know about cars, you driving tractors?"[9] Throughout answer Lamborghini decided to start the construction of a car that was "perfect even if not particularly revolutionary"[10]. Lamborghini automobiles was founded on 7 May 1963[11] and was based in a purpose-built factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese[12]. The owner, who had huge financial resources, immediately surrounded himself with very capable engineers and technicians: Giotto Bizzarrini designed the engine [13], Gian Paolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani the chassis [14], and Franco Scaglione designed the line. The 350 GTV was not very successful due to its too futuristic style and remained a one-of-a-kind specimen[12]. The project was then entrusted to the Milanese coachbuilder Touring which, while respecting the initial characteristics, created a more classic and sober design [12]. The new car, called the 350 GT, was a fast and elegant two-seater granturismo (according to the canons dictated by Ferruccio) and was the first car built in series by Lamborghini. It had moderate sales success and was followed by the 400 GT (which benefited from an increase in engine capacity) and the 400 GT 2+2, both presented in 1966.
