As part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Vajont catastrophe, the radio amateurs of the ARI sections of Pordenone and Belluno want to remember this tragic event with the establishment of a diploma called "Remembering Vajont Dam- There are many parallels between the moments of the catastrophe and the current world, starting from the means used: the radio, which in those moments became the means of informing the country of the tragedy, was the instrument that called places affected over 10,000 rescuers, in an outburst of solidarity that is still moving today (over 2000 victims and the destruction of the towns of Longarone, Erto and Casso).
This initiative is aimed at all amateur radio enthusiasts in Italy and beyond and aims to remember the tragic moments of 9 October 1963. For this event from 1 to 31 October 2023, the radio amateurs of the Pordenone and Belluno sections will be active on all amateur radio bands from 1.8 to 50 MHz and in the SSB CW and RTTY modes, the only modes and bands allowed for the obtaining the diploma.
To obtain the diploma, 60 points are required which can be achieved with amateur radio connections of the ARI sections of the province of Pordenone and Belluno. Each station can be connected only once per band or emission mode and is worth one point, the IQ3PN and IQ3CR section stations will also be active, these stations are worth 5 points per station with special callsign II3RDV (Remembering Diga Vaiont) is worth 10 points and can only be connected once regardless of mode or band.
The diploma request must be sent to the ARI section of Pordenone (segreteria@aripordenone.it) by December 31st 2023 by attaching a log extract of the connections in cabrillo format, the diploma will be sent via email in PDF format. For the occasion, a special QSL will be printed which can be requested from the QSL manager IV3EHH or via association.
