Honouring the 100th Anniversary of the IARU
During August 2025, Atlantic Coast DX & Contest Group members will proudly honour the 100th anniversary of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU). To celebrate this milestone, the group will conduct special activations of Parks on the Air (POTA), World Wide Flora & Fauna (WWFF), and Canadian Historical Sites On the Air locations, alongside other commemorative events. These activities highlight the spirit of global amateur radio cooperation and the IARU’s century-long commitment to the hobby.
About the IARU and Its Purpose
Founded in 1925, the IARU is the international federation of national amateur radio organizations representing over 160 countries. It serves as the collective voice of the amateur radio community at global telecommunications forums, particularly the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The IARU’s mission is to protect and promote the interests of amateur radio operators worldwide, ensuring access to valuable radio frequency spectrum and fostering technical innovation, emergency communications, and international goodwill.
Work CG9IARU and Earn a Special Certificate
As part of the centennial celebrations, the Atlantic Coast DX & Contest Group will operate the special callsign CG9IARU on three different bands throughout August 2025. Amateur radio operators who contact CG9IARU on all three bands during the month will be eligible to receive a special commemorative certificate recognizing their participation in this historic event.
Special Parks On The Air Activations
During August 2025, special Parks on the Air (POTA) activations will take place across Ontario, Quebec, and the Canadian Maritimes as part of the Atlantic Coast DX & Contest Group’s celebration of the IARU’s 100th anniversary. These activations will feature a diverse selection of protected parks and natural areas, offering amateur radio operators the opportunity to connect while exploring some of Canada’s most scenic and ecologically significant locations. From the lush forests and lakes of Ontario to the historic parks of Quebec and the rugged coastal landscapes of the Maritimes, these events will showcase the rich natural heritage of eastern Canada while promoting outdoor amateur radio activity and international camaraderie.
