Exciting news for amateur radio enthusiasts in India!
Starting with the May 2025 exams, new callsigns will be issued. Here's what you need to know:
- For General Grade licenses (VU2), you'll get a callsign like VU22DX or VU29AR, with the VU2 prefix followed by a combination of letters and numbers.
- For Restricted Grade licenses, the callsign format will remain similar to what it is now, with 3 letters and 2 digits, like VU33ABS. Keep in mind that Restricted Grade licenses come with some limitations:
- No CW (Morse code) operation allowed
- Maximum power output of 50W
If you're a reciprocal license holder, you'll fall under the Restricted Grade category with the same rules.
Also, if you're planning to participate in special expeditions, only General Grade license holders can operate with a group callsign.
Hope this helps, and happy hamming!
