    Amateur Radio licenses in Tunisia

Few months ago, Tunisia and North Korea were the only countries in the world that do not deliver individual licenses to radio amateurs. The situation in Tunisia is much better since the Ministry allows for activity to happen from radio clubs.

After the Jasmin Revolution in 2011, the Association des Radio Amateurs Tunisiens (ARAT), which later became the IARU Member Society, has initiated discussions with the Regulator to put in place a decree clarifying the process to follow for a Tunisian Radio amateur to acquire a license.

In September 2017, a ministerial decree approved by the president of the government has been published in the official journal of the Tunisian Republic. The decree outlines the steps needed for a local (or foreign resident) to pass the exam or to acquire the Tunisian equivalent of his foreign license (under some conditions).

December 20th, 2017 will mark the first exam session in the history of Amateur Radio in Tunisia. Twelve hams will take part in this first session. You should soon start to hear more stations from Tunisia!
