    NCDXF - Visalia

For the first time since 2019, the NCDXF BoD hosted a breakfast and a face-to-face Board meeting on April 22, 2023, at the International DX Convention (IDXC) in Visalia, California. This note summarizes BoD actions as well as some IDXC highlights.
    Items from the NCDXF meeting:
1 The 3Y0J DXpedition group co-leader, LA7GIA, Ken, notified us that he returned $40,000 to the Foundation from the original grant of $100,000. We accepted the return and expressed our thanks.
2 Officers and Directors re-elected for one year terms:
    • Kevin, K6TD, President
    • Craig, K9CT, Vice President
    • Don, N1DG, Treasurer
    • Glenn, W0GJ, Secretary
    • Ned, AA7A, Director
    • George, AA7JV, Director
    • Rich, KE1B, Director
    • Ross, K6GFJ, Director
    • John, K6MM, Director, and past president
    • Lee, KY7M, Director (and newsletter editor-in-chief)
    • Tom, ND2T, Director, and past president
3 The Foundation adopted a resolution to encourage and fund young licensed amateur operators to participate in DXpeditions. We will provide the funding to take along one or more young operators, encourage the training of young operators, and support DXpeditions to less rare entities that include younger operators.
4 The Foundation established a fund of $100,000 for grant proposals accepted that provide solutions to DQRM and pirate stations negatively impacting DXpeditions.
    Visalia highlights:
    • The IDXC was held at the Visalia Convention Center. Planning, operation, and
speaker sign-ups were handled by the Northern California DX Club, along with the Central Arizona DX Association. Co-Leaders Paul, N6PSE, and Ned, AA7A, were joined by John, K6MM, and Rich, KE1B, as advisors.
    • NCDXF published a special edition newsletter with a full article by VE3LYC and LA7GIA about the 3Y0J trip. Paper copies were available at the Foundation booth.
    • NCDXF had a three-table booth, raffling off an ICOM IC-705 (winner WZ6X), exhibiting the NCDXF rock collection, and showcasing a Radio in a Box (RIB).
    • N1DG brought his laptop and remotely operated the FO/N1DG RIB on Tahiti. Adrian, KO8SCA, happened by with his laptop, connected to 4U1UN, and the two had a QSO between 4U1UN and FO/N1DG while both ops sat next to each other.
    • IDXC attendance was almost 500 with walk-ins.
    • Great set of program topics and speakers.
    • The best part was getting to say “hi” to so many people in person.
