ZL Winter Sprint Series 2017
To stimulate some activity and have a bit of fun a Winter Sprint contest series is being held each Tuesday night for six weeks commencing Tuesday 13 June 2017 and ending 18 July 2017. The first three nights will be on 40m and the second three nights will be on 80m. It will run for an hour from 8.00pm (NZST) with the first half hour being CW and the second half hour SSB. The object is to work as many other stations as you can during that period swapping signal report and the outside temperature at your location. You can do either or both half hour periods as there are separate entry categories for CW and SSB and for those who do both as well as QRP and non-QRP. The scoring is simply 1 point per QSO with no multipliers and you can only work each station once in CW and once on SSB. The overall winners will be the people who post the best four scores over the five week period in each category.
The Rules
Objects:
For amateur radio stations to contact as many other amateur radio stations as possible within the 1 hour time limit
To improve operator skills
To prove you can sit in a cold shack in the middle of winter for an hour
To have fun!
When: Each Tuesday from 13 June to 18 July 2017 2000-2100 NZST:
2000-2029 CW only
2030- 2029 SSB only
Band: 40m on 13 June, 20 June and 27 June 2017
80m on 4 July, 11 July and 18 July 2017
Entry Category:
Single Operator, one transmitted signal only, assistance allowed (if you must) and one of:
High Power - up to full legal limit (if you must)
QRP - up to 5W CW or 10W SSB
in one of:
Mixed mode SSB and CW
CW only
SSB only
40m only
80m only
Exchange: RS(T) report and Outside Temperature to the nearest degree (if below zero send an “M” and the number in CW e.g. M1 which is minus 1). You can get the temperature from the Metservice website, put a thermometer outside, or take the predicted overnight low from the newspaper/radio. Failing all that your best estimate. Once you start don’t change it.

CW 7015-7035 3520 - 3550
SSB 7100-7150 3600 - 3650
Please respect other spectrum users and CW ops please QRS to the speed of the station calling you.
Scoring:
One point per contact CW or SSB
NOTE: There are no multipliers.
The final score is the sum of the contact points.
Logs: Only logs in electronic format are acceptable. Cabrillo format is preferred however ADIF, plain text, a word document or excel spreadsheet will be accepted. As a minimum the log must contain:
Callsign
Name and full address of operator
Claimed Score
Incredibly witty Soapbox comment or failing that feedback on what you liked and didn’t like about the sprint.
Log Submissions: By email only to markzl3ab@gmail.com within 24 hours of the end of the sprint. Results will be sent out on the major email reflectors.
No QSY Rule: You do not need to move frequency after you call CQ and work a station. However in the spirit of robust competition it is expected no one will simply sit on one frequency for the duration of the sprint.
