After 502 years, the Knights of the Order of Malta return to Rhodes (1522-2024).
The presence of Grand Master John T. Dunlap in Rhodes marks the first official visit of the Grand Master of the Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes, and of Malta to our island in over 500 years!
The Order of the Knights was founded in Jerusalem in 1048. The Rhodes period began in 1310 and ended in 1522, followed by the Maltese period from 1530 to 1748.
Their work has been vast and varied, ranging from philanthropy to the defense of Christianity.
Today, the Knights represent a distinct entity (Sovereign Military Order of Malta) recognized by the UN, comprising 12.500 members, 80.000 permanent volunteers and 13.000 medical personnel.
The Dodecanese Radio Amateur Association (SZ5RDS) considers it its duty to share this historic visit with fellow radio amateurs around the world and to express gratitude for the many good deeds the Order of Malta has provided to our island.
