Radio Syd in The Gambia Wiped off by Violent Fire

At the end of January 2020, the house known as Radio Syd, one mile from Banjul, the capital of The Gambia in West Africa was totally destroyed in fire. The owners of the premises, Connie and Benny from Sweden, survived the blaze, but lost everything.
This place was used by a number of Amateur Radio operators after the September 2002 storm had toppled the medium-wave antenna tower. The waterfront location was advantageous for HF radiation. This was the first commercial radio station in Africa, set up at the end of 1960s by a Swedish émigré who was forced to cease the off-shore transmission in southern Sweden
In recent years, the house was used as a hostel only because of increased level of electrical noise in this area.
Information and history of Radio Syd in The Gambia is available on a number of websites, including the Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Syd
The Swedish language Wikipedia has more facts and images.
The first team to rent this site for CQ WW contest was C5Z in 2003. Later, C5A used this venue a number of times. I was on the air from Radio Syd a couple of times as C56JHF.
