W7FF, James E. Swafford, from Tucson passed away 7 July 2017 at the age of 94.
He was first licensed in 1937 as W9ZAW in Kansas and served in the US Navy in the Western Pacific during World War II. He was a technical radar officer, supervising installation of ship-board radars. He installed the radars on Guam, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and later Japan. He later worked in the aerospace and broadcasting industries. He retired from the Hughes Aircraft Co. in Tucson, Arizona. Jim was a member of the A-1 Operator Club and had 293 confirmed in the ARRL DXCC Phone standings. His survivors include his wife, Maria, KB7INH.
