Martin J Green, Jr, K2PLF from Street, Maryland, USA passed away.
He was 81.
Information received from Bernie, W3UR.
My story with Marty started around 1980-1981 time frame. I was only 16 or 17 when we met at the QTH of the late K3HPG, Mike Harshman. Others in that group include KA3Redskins (now K3BR), Brad; and N3ST, Brian. A real fun group of guys.
Many throughout the US will know Marty as a true gentleman. He lived in the Chicago, Illinois (K2PLF/9), El Toro, California (K2PLF/6) and several spots in Maryland. He worked for Baxter International, hence a few stops around the US.
He was a member of the Potomac Valley Radio Club (PVRC), the National Capitol DX Association (NCDXA), Caribbean Contesting Consortium (PJ2T), Life Member of the ARRL and a member of the Hiram Percy Maxim Society. Marty was a DXer and Contester. He had over 2850 confirmed in the ARRL DXCC Challenge. K2PLF had all current countries confirmed and 355 total countries confirmed in the ARRL DXCC Mixed standings.
Marty enjoy working Field Day. His favorite Bands were 160, 30 and 6 meters. He was an excellent CW operator.
He also gave back to the hobby, working with K1MMH, Mary Hobart, when she was working for the ARRL. He helped with scholarships.
I had the great pleasure of traveling with Marty on multiple trips to Visalia, Dayton and Chicago. It was always an adventure and he had a wonderful sense of humor.
The family will have a celebration of life service, including viewing and prayer service on Monday January 25th at Evans Funeral Home in Forest Hill, Maryland. They also are planning another service in New Jersey in early Spring. My condolences to Marty’s wife N6WHB, Patty, and the entire Green family. RIP my good friend – K2PLF.
