was born in 1947 in a small town in Southwestern Va.
Emory VA. which is the home of Emory & Henry College.
My Father was just back from WW2 and had got his Amateur Radio License (W4YQW) , In 47 the winter was so bad in the month of February they could not get out of the house when my mother went into labor. An Old country Dr. came to the house to bring the new baby into the world (ME) and when the Dr. spank the new born on the butt and he got his first breath .
The first thing he heard was his father on Morse Code sending CQ CQ on a Surplus ARC-5 Transmitter & the Hallicrafters S-38 Receiver. From that very first day CW was in my blood
At the age of 14 in 1961 I got my Novice License (WN4HMX)
Upgraded to General in less than one year (WA4HMX)
Got the Vanity Call in 2013 as it was better on CW
Plus it was also my First Name , Made that easy also.
