I received the latest issue of QST this afternoon, and noticed that Bob Fox, NM2D was listed as a Silent Key. For those who remember, Bob was also licensed as V31MD in Belize, and ran a well known rent-a-station in Placencia (called Palmetto Place) where many successful contest operations took place over the years. He also operated there often himself, and handed out many QSO’s to DXers all over the world.
I operated there in 2011, and it was my first opportunity to be DX, and what a great experience it was. The station was relatively simple (verticals on the low bands, 2L quad for the high bands, TS-850), but being right next to a saltwater bay, it sure played well.
He sold the house about 10 years ago to a non-ham, and the station was QRT. I know that he tried to sell to a ham to keep the station and business going, but nothing ever panned out in that regard.
RIP Bob, and thanks for everything.
73, Ken N2ZN / V31AM
