I knew Ben from when he first started his amateur radio career.
Ben was always very active and did a lot for the development of amateur radio in the world.
He was one of the best contestants in Germany, if not the best.
    RIP my Friend.

      Message from Alex, KU1CW/P40C:
      RIP Ben.
I climbed this tower multiple times. It was “EU” tower with 20-10 yagis and I.V. for 160M.
Towers in P4 should be replaced much more often, compared to main land. Solid leg would work better.
      Alex - P40C / KU1CW

          Information from DL1MGB:
          Dear YLs, XYLs and OMs,

unfortunately, Martin, DL5RMH, brought me tragic news:

"It is with deep sadness that I inform you that our friend Ben, DL6RAI, passed away this morning in an accident while working at his QTH in Aruba.

Ben and I were preparing for the upcoming replacement of the masts in his QTH in P4. Ben was working on the mast when it unexpectedly buckled and fell to the ground. Despite first aid and immediate help from the ambulance, we could not save Ben.

My deepest condolences to Luise, DL2MLU and the family.

          In deep sorrow,
          Martin, P4/DL5RMH"

I too am deeply shocked. Our thoughts are with his wife Luise and family.

          RIP Ben.

Ben's wife Luise, DL2MLU, asked me to send you the following information.

Ben will be laid out in Aruba next Wednesday and also probably Thursday.
After that he will find his final resting place at P4.

There will be a memorial service in Germany after Luise's return from Aruba.
We will be informed about the place and date.

The future of the station is uncertain, but according to Luise it should offered for purchase after everything is settled.

DL6RAI's ashes will be spread out in the Caribbean sea.
                R.I.P. Ben!

The corroded towers and antennas at P49V are currently being safely taken down using a lift.
