    Pierre D. Tromp, ZS1HF ex ZR1PDT from Worcester, South Africa, passed away.
    He Born in 1962.
    Pierre was active Radio Amateur, active DXer.
    Information from his QRZ page:
    Born in Oranjemund, South West Africa (now Namibia) in 1962.

    Joined the SA Air Force in 1981 and served for 10 years, qualifying as a radio telecommunications technician. The high light was 3 years in Oshakati during the border war where I was in charge of techincal support and maintenance of all the telecommunications at 310 AFCP.

    I am also an active member with Wilderness Search and Rescue, Off Road Rescue Unit and HAMNET Western Cape.

    I am also a proud member of the South African Radio League (SARL) and the ARRL.

    I was licenced in 1985 as ZR5KF while in Durban.

    Former call signs: ZR5KF, ZR3BA (South West Africa), ZR6ASA, ZR1ACE and ZR1PDT before upgrading to ZS1HF. I held YI9HF in 2007 while on contract in Iraq.

    I am an active two-way radio dealer in the Western Cape, specialising in miltary and commercial HF systems, repeater systems, specialised communication applications and projects. To date I have been instrumental in training some 1008 new radio amateurs in the Western Cape.

    I am married to Louise ZS1ONI.

    I was fortunate to spend a year working on Marion Island as the resident radio / electronics technician and also operating as ZS8M. I returned to Cape Town in May 2011.

    I also spent 8 month on Gough Island (Feb to Sept 2014) and operated at ZD9M.

    Very sad news.
    Pierre D. Tromp, ZS1HF, passed SK on September 4.
    We will always remember his great activities from Gough and Marion islands with calls ZS8M and ZD9M.
    RIP Pierre.
