K4VV, Jack C. Hammett, Jr. , from Peonian Springs, passed away early on New Year's Day. After retiring as a Colonel in the Army Signal Corps he built a multi-multi station in Northern Virginia. Jack was a member of the Potomac Valley Radio Club and a past President. Shortly after the station was complete Jack was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.
W4AAW, Mike Lonneke, one of the K4VV ops remembers Jack as a "kind, happy, brilliant, highly accomplished and generous man".
Up until three years ago the station was being operated remotely by all the ops.
