K7XM, Hugh S. Phillips, from Elizabeth, USA, was hit by a pickup truck outside the Visalia Convention Center just after 6 AM Thursday morning as he crossed the street.
The Visalia Times Delta newspaper reports he was visiting from Colorado.
He was 78.
Hugh's QRZ bio says he was ex-KR7Y, KS6O, KB6YU, WA6KCX, WN6KCX and KS6O/OH0.
Hugh said he had all the current DXCC entities confirmed with Swains Island his final one.
He was in the US Navy from 1957-1961.
