GB0DRT - RAF Mountain and Desert Rescue Team

GB0DRT is a special event callsign used with a recreated RAF Mountain and Desert Rescue Team (MDRT) FFR Signals Wagon as originally deployed in Masirah Island Oman in 1973/4. The vehicle has an original HF station consisting of a 100 Watt AM and USB Redifon GR479A radio with a 4m whip antenna.

The first deployment of this station will be at CastleTown, Portland UK as part of the Weymouth and Portland Armed Services Celebrations on the 23rd and 24th of June 2018.

Bands used will be limited to 40m, 60m, and 80m either AM or USB (no LSB).

2018 represents the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force and the 75th anniversary of the RAF Mountain Rescue organisation.

The Series3 FFR Land Rover was one of three vehicles in the RAF Masirah MDRT manned by part time rescue volunteers required to be flown at short notice to crashed aircraft in either Mountain or Desert locations. The team exercised every weekend in desert survival, hill walking, rock-climbing, casualty evacuation and First Aid.

The holder of this callsign was a member of the team and the current vehicle is a faithful reconstruction of the original.
