    HF74AK special event station to commemorate the Polish soldiers of Home Army and Peasant's Battalions , who died during the German anti-partisans operation "Sturmwind 2" in days from 18 to 27 June 1944.

    The greatest and most fierce partisans battle at Osuchy in June 1944
    In the spring of 1944 , the occupation authorrities of the Lublin district were in a catasrophic situation. The intensified activity of the Polish underground resistance in this area was seriously disrupted by the German administrative aparatus, which was not able to effectively draft incontingent in thi situation. Numerous actions of partisans units paralized supplies. The partisans carried out liquidation actions of German stations insmall towns /Łukowa , Księżpol/ breaking prisons, freeing their arrested competriots and taking over food ware houses.Large areas of the district were beyond German the eastern Controland German power was limited to controlling cities and larger settlements with strong military and police garrisons. In the opinion of German the situation was very serious . German High Commend regardless of serious diffculties of the Eastern Front, wanted to ensure safe roads for the expected retreat of German units and therefore directed three divisions at the disposal of the Military District of General Government : 154 reserve division of gen. Friedrich Alterich , 175 reserve division of gen. Georg Friedrich Eberhard and 213 protection division of gen. Alex Goschen. As supplies German forces used : 1st battalion of 4th SS regiment, seven companies of Wehrmacht /Eastern Legion/ , 4th training regiment of "Northern Ukraine" group , Kalmuck Cavalary Corps of colonel Doll. Apart from that the German forces were strengthened by Military Police battalion, 115th regiment of national riflemen, the 177th protection regiment , reconnaissance sub-divisions of the 4th armoured divisions, "Kozaks" regiment, reconnaissance and bombarding aircraft of the 4th Aircraft Fleet. The entire German forces of about 30000 people were under the command of the commander-in chief of the Military District od General Government gen. Siegfried Hanicke.The head of the headquarters commended by him was gen.Max Bork. In June 1944 the German carried out a large-scale compaign under the code name "Sturmwind" against partisans units operating in the area of the soutern Zamość region. The Germans started operation "Sturmwind 1" , this action was cover the Lipskie and Janowskie forests where apart of the Lubelski Region People's Army - 500 men and Soviet units -1875 men. In the area the following units were stationed : NOW- Home Army of Franiciszek Przysiężniak "Ojciec Jan"/Father John/ and the Cadet School of Home Army. The partisnans units resisted in the area of Porytowe Wzgórze hill on the Branwia river and on 15 June they managed to get out of the encirclement unnoticed and get through to Puszcza Solska . In this situation the German started operation" Sturmwind 2" in the region of Puszcz Solska. In the encirclement were trapped the partisan units of appr. 2400 men which managed to force their way from Lasy Lanowskie forest and Major /Colonel/ Edward Kalina grouping consisting of 1130 soldiers , commanding the Home Army unit of Józef Stegliński "Cord", Jan Kryk "Topola", Konrad Bartoszewski "Wir", Adam Haniewicz "Woyna", the platoon from "Podkowa" unit unde the commanded of Ryszard Siwiński "Korczak", the forest hospital"665" commanded by Dr Lucjan Kopeć "Radwan" and its protection commanded by Władysław Drygas "Żbik", Independent Mining squad of Stanisław Kowalski "Huk", the Bureau of Information and Propaganda patrol of Home Army Headquarters by Kazimierz Józefowicz "Kalif" , Zamość Inspectorate of the Home Army. " Kalina" grouping also consisted of Peasant's Battalions units"/also considered to be the Home Army unit/ of Józef Mazur "Skrzypik" , Antoni Wróbel "Anton"-"Burza", Jan Kędra "Jaskółka"-"Błyskawica" and the 1st battalion of "Ryś" under command of Antoni Warchał "Szczerba". The "Sturmwind 2" operation lasted from 18 to 27 June 1944. In the course of heavy figthing and exhausting marching the "Kalina" grouping retreated to the marsh land deep in the forest of Puszcza Solska looking for a chance to get out of the encirclement. By then, the partisans were pushed into an area of 6 by 4 km and their only hope was to break through by Sopot river in the vicinity of Osuchy village. The heaviest battle was fought at down on 25th and 26th of June 1944, where the grouping already commanded by Konrad Bartoszewski "Wir"/"Kalina died on 24 June near Osuchy/ started the dramatic fight to get out of the trap. Only few managet to do so. In this German operation died about 400 Polish soldiers of Home Army and Peasnt's Battalions - They have died on the field of glory ! Peace to their memory!
