As the troops left Dorset for their journey to the beaches of Normandy, Portland Bill Lighthouse may have been the last lighthouse or aid to navigation that they saw before reaching the visible horizon, 16 miles from the lighthouse.
Marking this occasion of 75 years since that event, we should reflect on what was so bravely achieved by so many.
Sadly, as in all conflicts, battles and wars, so many many lives were lost.
Furthermore and very very sadly, more lives will be lost during any future conflicts, battles and wars.
God Bless those who made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we could lead and live the lives we do today.
