    Information from qrz page:
This event which will be run from the Clubhouse, will be commemorating the crash of the airship R101, which effectively ended the development of airships in the United Kingdom but had no effect on the accelerating development of fixed wing aircraft. It will use the special event call GB4IOI. QRV 80m - 10m (all modes) and 2m.

The airship was built at Cardington in the huge hanger no 1 by Shorts Brothers, the parts being made by Boulten and Paul at Norwich and transported to the site by road.

R101 was launched on its maiden flight on the 4th October 1930, performing a PR trip over London. Then across the Channel to France, crashing into a hill near Allonnes. The airship was totally destroyed by the ignition of the lifting gas(Hydrogen)with great loss of life. There is a large communal grave in Cardington Village Cemetery.

The NOV starts on 1st October for 27 days.

The event will be run by the Bedford & District Amateur Radio Club
