With regard to radio amateurism, two events are of special importance this year:
Firstly, the “International Radio Amateur Day”, on April 18, 2021, which has the theme “Home, but never Alone”.
The aim of this day is to stimulate radio amateurs to continue experimenting with radio in general, technology in particular. The theme shows the importance of this particular social network during the current pandemic that is pushing many people into social isolation.
Second, the anniversary of the first transatlantic radio transmission, on December 12, 2021. On that date, it will be 120 years since Guglielmo MARCONI first managed to bridge the Atlantic Ocean wirelessly with radio signals. This heralded the telecommunications era and was the foundation of what many radio amateurs still do every day.
Even in today's era of lightning-fast communication, the Institute wishes to highlight and support these events.
