On October 9, 2021 and for five days, a 25-member group of radio amateurs from all over Greece will activate the Special Call sign SX2MZ in Honor of Pavlos Melas. Pavlos Melas was an Artillery Officer, operated in Macedonia with the aim of Liberating and finally was killed by enemy fire in an ambush in the village of Statista on October 13, 1904. (Then the village was renamed Melas) The death of the young Officer awakened all Greeks about liberating this occupied area and thus became the "symbol of the Greek Struggle for Macedonia". The suffix "MZ" was chosen from "Mækes Zezas", from the code name used by Pavlos Melas in his operations, inspired by the nicknames of his son Michalis (Mækes) and his daughter Zoe (Zeza).
