    Radio Amateurs members of the West Australian VHF Group Inc. will be active with special call VK80LAN from Applecross, Western Australia, Australia, commemorating 80 Year anniversary of AVRO Lancaster in Perth, Western Australia.

    VK80LAN - celebrating 80 years of the Avro Lancaster

    VK80LAN was issued by the Australian ACMA at the request of the West Australian VHF Group to celebrate the 80 year anniversary of one of the few Avro Lancaster aircraft surviving from service in the second world war. This exemplar of the plane is located in the RAAF Aviation Museum in Bull Creek, Perth, Western Australia.

    The Avro Lancaster was manufactured by British aircraft manufacturer Avro. It is a four-engined heavy bomber adopted by UK's Royal Air Force (RAF) during the during the Second World War.

    Lancaster aircraft first saw war service 80 years ago in 1942 for the RAF and squadrons from other Commonwealth, such as Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF Squadrons 460, 463 & 467), Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF Squadrons 405, 408 , 419 , 420 , 424, 425 , 426 , 427 , 428 , 429 , 431 , 432 , 433 , 434), and European countries serving within the RAF.
