    RP77BQ Special Event station will be active from Yaroslavl, Russia, 2 - 9 May 2022, commemorating 77th Anniversary of the Victory in Second World War and in honor of Boris Dmitrievitch Shchapov, 17.02.1921 - 30.05.1944, Hero of USSR.

    Shchapov Boris Dmitrievich (02/17/1921 - 05/30/1944) Pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union. Born in the family of a foundry worker. In the early 1930s, he moved to Yaroslavl with his parents. After the 8th grade, I went to work at the factory. In 1939 he entered the Yaroslavl flying club, after which he was sent to the flight school among the best graduates. In the Red Army since 1940. I met the beginning of the Great Patriotic War as a cadet of the Balashov Military Aviation School. At the end of his studies, he asked to join the combat unit, but received a referral as an instructor pilot to the Orenburg (Chkalov) pilot school.

    In July 1943 arrived in the 800th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 9th Guards Krasnogorsk Assault Aviation Division. He received his baptism of fire in the battles on the Kursk Bulge. Within 2 weeks, for 10 sorties for ground attack during the July German offensive, the division commander presented junior lieutenant Shchapov with the first combat award - the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree.


    In May 1944, for the courage and dedication shown, for constant heroism in the battles for the liberation of Soviet Ukraine, the regimental command introduced junior lieutenant Shchapov to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. May 16, 1944 the award sheet for B. Shchapov was signed by the commander of the 5th Air Army, Colonel-General of Aviation Goryunov, and the sheet went to the front headquarters.


    May 30, 1944 in a battle over Romania, Shchapov's plane was shot down and exploded in the fall, the pilot and gunner died. The title of Hero was awarded posthumously
