David M0TPT (Club Chairman) will be activating GB0SB on the above dates.
This Special Event Station is being activated from the Isle of Sheppey, UK to celebrate the pioneering work of the Short Brothers (Oswald, Horace & Eustace) during the early 1900's.
After hearing of reports of the Wright Brothers flying demonstrations at Le Mans, France, the Short Bros. began to investigate the building of aeroplanes, switching from their current balloon construction. The Brothers obtained the British rights to build copies of the Wright Bros. designs, (Wright Flyer) thus subsequently building the Short No.1 Biplane.
Early flights were undertaken at Muswell Manor but soon moved to Stone Pitts Farm, Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey, with a workshop being built 1909-10.
