SX39J = Sierra X-Ray San Kyu Japan = Thank you Japan
A special Event Station to honor JAPAN for the brave actions by the Captain of the Japanese cargo ship "TOKEI MARU" who saved hundreds of Greek refugees in September 1922 during the “Burning of Smyrna”.
At the time of the fire, some Allied warships were in the harbor, along with countless other merchant ships.
But most of them refused to pick refugees up. Amidst all the chaos, the Japanese freighter “TOKEI MARU” was reported to have unloaded all its precious cargo to take on as many refugees as it could, transporting them onward to the Greek mainland.
Number three (3) in Japanese can be pronounced "San", while the number nine (9) can be "Kyu", so you can read 39 as "san kyu"... a Japanese-inflected version of the English "thank you"
