Louis Pasteur, born December 27, 1822 in Dole (Jura) and died September 28, 1895 in Marnes-la-Coquette (Hauts-de-Seine, at that time in Seine-et-Oise), was a French scientist, chemist and physicist by training. A pioneer in microbiology, he enjoyed great notoriety during his lifetime for having developed a vaccine against rabies.
