Radio Amateurs members of the Szollosi Jozsef Radioklub, HA4KYB will be active using special call sign HG45SAT from Szekesfehervar, Furdosor, Hungary, commemorating 45th Anniversary of the Hungarian Space Communication ground station based on Taliandorogd.
Following a soviet template it was designed by Sándor Kovács engineer of the Hungarian Post Institute. Bult between 1975-77. It was handed over for the operation on 20th Januany 1978.
Originally this was part of the InterCosmos program but later the Intelsat program was also hosted here. All major sport, cultural or political events in that era were sent/received here. This station was essential part of the early stage of the Hungarian television network.
On the top of the main building there is a Cassegrain type antenna with 12m diameter. Elevation could be set between 0-90 degree and azimuth 0-270 degree. It was operating up to 25 m/s (90km/h) wind speed, but it was designed to stand the pressure of 53 m/s (190 km/h) wind too.
The receiver was cooled with liquid nitrogen to keep the noise temperature below 70K.
Today the station does not have the same function. The main building is not in use anymore and the main antenna is out of order. It is an industrial heritage and a historical landmark of this country.
The environment is really spectacular. It in a valley for reducing the radio noise. A beautiful landscape view, magnificent hills surrounding. Annually there is an festival organized nearby in Kapolcs.
