More than 200 thousand aviators and more than 80 thousand air defense soldiers were awarded orders and medals of the USSR for the successful execution of combat missions of the command, for their courage and bravery. More than 2,400 aviators were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
65 Air Force pilots and military leaders were awarded this title twice. During the Great Patriotic War, 30 female aviators became Heroes of the Soviet Union.
