Serbian physicist, astronomer, mathematician and diplomat from Dubrovnik, one of the most important scientists of his time, listed among the 100 most famous Serbs of all time. He was a university professor, founder of the Milan Observatory and director of the Optical Institute of the French Navy. He was a universal creator: philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, physicist, engineer, pedagogue, geologist, architect, archaeologist, constructor, optician, diplomat, travel writer, professor, Jesuit, the best Latin poet of the eighteenth century and a polyglot translator.

He was born on May 18, 1711 as the seventh child of merchant Nikola Bošković (Serb from Orahov near Trebinje in Herzegovina) and mother Pavla (of Italian origin, from the family of Bar Betera, a famous Dubrovnik poet). His brother was Bartolomej Baro Bošković. He spent his entire working life abroad, where he gained world fame, and only once stopped in his native Dubrovnik, in 1747.He never hid his native origin - he remained a Slovene, as the South Slavs were called at the time. He died and was buried on February 13, 1787, and his heart was taken to his homeland.
